North East Line, Singapore
Mark led the multi-disciplinary design of two large MRT stations built using semi top-down construction. Contract included cut-and-cover tunnel and 1.8km of twin bored tunnel. Built in a dense urban area, the stations are designed as civil defence shelters, each holding 7,500 people and capable of withstanding a direct bomb blast.
Canada Water Station, Jubilee Line Extension, London
Mark led the civil and structural design for this station. It formed an interchange with the existing East London Line and subsequently a new bus station. Cut-and-cover construction was used with bottom up techniques in general, but top-down methods had to be adopted for an area close to two occupied tower blocks.
