HS2 Phase 2b, UK
Appointed by HS2 to chair a Peer Review of all of the structures (viaducts, bridges and retaining walls) on Phase 2b. Working with HS2 and its 3 designers identified savings of up to £600m.
HS2 Phase 1, UK
Appointed by HS2 to chair several Pilot Studies on the viaducts, bridges, retaining walls and tunnel portals. The studies involved working with HS2, the contractors, the contractors’ designers / discipline experts and identified significant opportunities to improve the designs and reduce costs. Subsequently appointed to provide expert advice on specific technical matters to HS2.
Bank Station Capacity Upgrade - London
Engineering Expert for the Transport and Works Act Order Public Inquiry for the upgrade of a very extensive and complex underground station in the City of London serving 6 different railway lines. Appointed by London Underground Ltd through the contractor, Dragados.
Gerrards Cross Tunnel Collapse, UK
Expert advice to Babcock during the successful mediation following the collapse of the tunnel. The tunnel was constructed using precast concrete half-arch sections installed over the railway and then backfilled to create usable development space over the tunnel. The investigation required a detailed review of the design and construction and a non-linear investigation of both the soil-structure interaction and also the structural response.
